Check your iPhone by IMEI

Find out which carrier it is locked to and whether iCloud is on. No signup, no card — one free check per person per day.

Type the first 14 — we compute the last one.

What is the IMEI and what is it for?

The IMEI is 15 digits that uniquely identify your device, like a license plate. With it you can query the carrier database to see whether the phone is tied to a company and whether iCloud is on. It is the first thing to check before buying a used iPhone: a locked device, or one with iCloud still on, is worth far less — and sometimes worth nothing at all.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my IMEI?

Dial *#06# and it shows up on screen. It's also in Settings → General → About, or printed on the box. 15 digits.

What does this check tell me?

Which carrier the device is locked to (or whether it is unlocked) and whether iCloud / Find My iPhone is on. Those two facts decide if you can use it with another company and if it can be resold.

Is it really free?

Yes, no signup and no card. We query the carrier database and show you the result.

What if it comes back locked?

We can unlock it by IMEI, permanently and remotely, from $8. The check result shows you a direct link to your carrier service.

What if iCloud is on?

That phone can't be used or resold until the previous owner takes it off their account. If it's yours, sign in at iCloud.com from another device and remove it from Find My.
